The Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Medical Center  (OLMCMC) is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide advanced diagnostic and interventional procedures for patients with cardiovascular, neurological, and vascular conditions. Open 24 hours a day, the Cath Lab is equipped with cutting-edge imaging technology and staffed by highly trained cardiologists, interventional radiologists, nurses, and technicians dedicated to delivering accurate diagnoses and life-saving treatments.

Comprehensive Interventional Cardiology Services

The Cath Lab plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of heart diseases using minimally invasive techniques. These procedures help reduce recovery times, minimize complications, and provide patients with effective alternatives to open surgery. Our interventional cardiology services include:

  • Coronary Angiogram: Imaging of coronary arteries to detect blockages or narrowing.
  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI): Also known as angioplasty, a procedure to open blocked arteries and restore blood flow.
  • Electrophysiology and Cardiac Pacing: Evaluation and treatment of irregular heart rhythms.
  • Permanent Pacemaker Implantation: For patients with slow heart rhythms requiring continuous pacing support.
  • Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibrillator (CRTD) Implantation: Advanced therapy for heart failure patients.
  • Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) Implantation: Device implantation to prevent sudden cardiac death from arrhythmias.
  • Leadless Pacemaker Implantation: A minimally invasive option for selected patients needing pacing support.

Advanced Interventional Radiology Procedures

The Cath Lab also provides interventional radiology services for the diagnosis and treatment of vascular and non-vascular conditions using imaging guidance and minimally invasive techniques. These services include:

  • Diagnostic Cerebral Angiogram: Imaging of brain blood vessels to evaluate strokes, aneurysms, or other abnormalities.
  • Venogram and Fistulogram: Imaging for veins and arteriovenous fistulas, especially for dialysis access care.
  • Mesenteric and Pulmonary Angiograms: Imaging of intestinal and lung blood vessels to diagnose clots or vascular abnormalities.
  • Peripheral Angiogram and Stenting: Assessment and treatment of blood vessels outside the heart and brain.
  • Paracentesis and Thoracentesis: Fluid drainage procedures for the abdomen and chest.
  • Embolization (Non-Neuro): Blocking abnormal blood vessels to control bleeding or shrink tumors.
  • Transarterial Hepatic Tumor Chemoembolization: Targeted cancer therapy for liver tumors.
  • Cerebral Coiling: Treatment for brain aneurysms using minimally invasive techniques.
  • Percutaneous Needle Biopsy: Image-guided sampling of tissue for diagnosis.
  • Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage: Relieves bile duct blockages through catheter placement.
  • Endovascular Aneurysm Repair: Minimally invasive treatment for aortic aneurysms using stent grafts.

Availability

The Cath Lab operates 24/7, ensuring rapid response for emergency cardiac and vascular cases, as well as scheduled diagnostic and interventional procedures.
