The Department of Internal Medicine at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Medical Center (OLMCMC) is proud to uphold a strong tradition of excellence in patient care, medical education, and professional training. Recognized by the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), the department currently holds a 3-Year Full Accreditation Status for its Internal Medicine Residency Training Program - an achievement that reflects its commitment to the highest standards of clinical practice, education, and service to the community.

Excellence in Medical Training and Service

The department plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of internists while providing quality medical services to patients. As of March 2023, two physicians who completed their residency training at OLMCMC successfully passed their certifying examinations and are now board-certified internists.

Currently, the department has nine (9) resident physicians undergoing intensive training. These residents provide 24/7 medical coverage, ensuring continuous care for patients within the hospital. Their training goes beyond theoretical knowledge, focusing on hands-on clinical experience under the close supervision of highly trained specialists, including diplomates and fellows of the Philippine College of Physicians. This approach guarantees that patients receive expert, evidence-based care while residents gain the skills and confidence needed to excel in their field.

Leadership and Development

The department was initially led by Dr. Eden B. Castillo, the first chairperson, who laid the foundation by recruiting board-certified internists to join the medical staff. In 2021, leadership transitioned to Dr. Edgardo Tiglao Jr., the current chairperson, supported by Training Officer Dr. Marc Angelo Hizon, along with the Training Core Committee and various Section Heads. Together, they continue to strengthen both the clinical services and the residency training program offered by the department.
